Adding a genetics product

A genetics product is a semen or embryo line you keep in stock. Adding one records its breeding details, how much you have, and what it costs — so it's ready to track and sell.

Open Genetics from the left-hand menu.

Steps

1. Select Add Genetics Product in the top-right corner.
2. Choose a Type — Semen or Embryo. This decides which breeding details the form asks for next.
3. Fill in the shared details:
   • Quantity (units) — how many units you have in stock. This one is required.
   • Extracted Date — when the product was collected. This one is required too.
   • Description, Price per Unit, Status, Tank Location and Grade (A+ down to 😎 — all optional, but worth filling in to keep your records complete.
4. Add the breeding details for the type you chose (see below).
5. Set any extra options you need — Ownership (Full or Partial, with an Ownership Note), Restrictions, and the Export Eligible toggle.
6. Select Create to save the product, or Cancel to discard it.

Adding semen — record its quality, then choose the sire.

For semen

When you choose Semen, the form asks for:

• Sire Details → Sire M.Number — pick the sire from your animals. This is required.
• Cane Code Batch — your batch reference.
• CSS Certified — a toggle for certified product.
• Semen quality — straw concentration (million/mL), one or both straw sizes (0.25 mL and 0.5 mL), normal morphology (%) and post-thaw progressive motility (%). Complete these to estimate normal progressively motile sperm in millions per straw, with a separate estimate for each selected size. Use post-thaw measurements from the same batch. The estimate assumes the two percentages are independent, describes one straw, and does not predict conception success. Quality measurements stay on the internal product page.

For embryos

When you choose Embryo, the form records both parents:

• Embryo Source → Sire M.Number — pick the sire from your animals.
• Dam Details → Dam M.Number — pick the dam from your animals. This is required.
• Embryo Type — DT, IVF or Conventional (the default).

Embryos record both a sire and a dam — the Dam M.Number field is required.

Pick a sire and dam you've already added

You choose the sire (and, for embryos, the dam) from your existing animals, so add those records first if they aren't in Frisbee yet — see Adding an animal.

After you create it

Once you select Create, the product appears in your Genetics Products list. Open it to see the sire's photo for semen or the dam's photo for embryos, its details and batch, and a green stock summary: straws (or embryos) on hand, available, reserved for sales and sold, with the price per unit. Semen also shows its quality figures and the estimated effective dose per straw.

Selling genetics

1. Open the product and select Sell genetics.
2. Choose the Customer, the Quantity to sell and the Sale price per unit. The total is worked out for you.
3. Check the Purchase date and add any Notes.
4. Select Record sale.

Record who bought the straws or embryos, how many, and the price.

Each purchase is separate: ten straws can sell to ten different customers. The product's Purchases tab lists every sale and its Usage log tab lists what you have used on your own animals. Each sale also appears in the customer's Purchase History, marked with a straw badge. To correct a sale, open its row menu (⋮) and choose Reverse sale; the units go back into stock.

Genetics products and semen quality are internal records and do not appear on public sale pages. Existing sale-event reservations are retained in the stock summary; reserved units cannot be used or sold directly. Closing the event releases its unsold stock.
